22nd Annual Gladys Ricart & Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk / Brides’ March

September 26, 2022 - April 26, 2022
8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Holyrood Episcopal Church

If you or someone you know has been affected by family violence or if you denounce this antisocial criminal behavior, we invite you to join the Brides’ March at the 22nd Annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk on Monday, September 26, 2022.

For the background on the Bride’s March and the Annual Gladys Ricart and Victims of Domestic Violence Memorial Walk, please visit the History, Mission and Goals page.

The 2021 event will start gathering at 8AM at the Holyrood Episcopal Church, 715 West 179th Street, (between Fort Washington and Broadway). The Opening Ceremony begins at 9:30AM. Marching will start at 10:30 AM. The March will travel South on Broadway, go into the Bronx, then onto Harlem, and end in East Harlem at 106th Street and Lexington Ave, New York, NY. Due to NYC’s Covid restrictions this year’s event will not end indoors nor will it have a closing ceremony. For the complete Route information please visit the March Route page.

Because to the Brides’ March the white wedding dress has become the profound symbol to memorialize Gladys and the many that have lost their lives to this crime, we encourage all women and non-binary people to wear one. But if you cannot or do not want to wear a wedding dress, please dress in All white. Those who want to march in a wedding dress but don’t have one, please visit the Wedding Dress page for information on how to obtain one.

The Brides’ March calls on men who denounce this antisocial criminal behavior to join forces in publicly denouncing violence against women and raise awareness of intimate partner abuse. Since over 90% of domestic homicides are committed by males, we call on men to please dress in All black to represent mourning for the many that have lost their lives to this crime.

Everyone is welcomed to bring to the event any size picture of the person(s) whose life you want to honor. At the start of the event these pictures are displayed at the podium to memorialize and pay respects to those we are remembering during the March. Marchers also carry the pictures throughout the walk to raise awareness of domestic homicides.

Get involved by organizing a group of your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers etc. to attend with you, and by spreading the word about the event through your social media outlets. Please use #BridesMarch.

To get a count of the number of people expected to attend, please register at the Registration page, and please be sure to review the Disclosure page for important information about participating in the Memorial Walk.

On Monday, September 26, 2022, join the Brides’ March in remembering Gladys Ricart and the countless other victims, and together let’s raise awareness of the horrors of this antisocial criminal behavior that in one-way or another affects us all.
