Fiscal Manager

This is an opportunity to work at an enterprising organization dedicated to supporting an underserved community in upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Founded in 1988, Dominican Women’s Development Center’s (DWDC) mission is to empower women and communities to achieve gender equality and social justice. DWDC provides direct services and programs for all women and families that are affected by any form of oppression including racism, sexism, classism, domestic and other forms of violence (such as sexual assault, sexual harassment, incest, and human trafficking). In this regard, DWDC provides key services that include day care, healthy families, and domestic violence services. Led by an outstanding and strong Executive Director DWDC is poised for growth, having just been awarded a $ 1M federal grant to deliver STEM related services. A new Fiscal Manager is needed to help DWDC with its next phase of growth.

The Fiscal Manager will oversee a small staff and join a small team to oversee a $ 5M budget with nearly 80 staff. A key aspect of this role is to act as liaison between an outsourced accounting team and internal staff. As a direct report to the Executive Director, this individual will work diligently in ensuring that all claim reimbursements are submitted as per prescribed deadlines and generally work with the outsourced team on ensuring that all aspects of the accounting function are performed and completed.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Analyze and prepare financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Working closely with CFO coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and planning process in conjunction with the ED and working closely with the CFO; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Lead to ensure that the GL is kept accurate and current at all times.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations monthly.
  • Implement and maintain a robust and effective contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contracts/grants billing and collection schedule is adhered to, and that financial data and cash flows are steady and support operational requirements. A key component of this is effective, efficient, and timely invoicing for reimbursement.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable to ensure that all organizational obligations are being properly monitored and paid in a timely manner.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; seek to review and improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedures manual.
  • Manage and process payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the ED and CFO.
  • Oversee staff of two and volunteers as assigned.
  • Commitment to Implement Agency’s Mission and Principles.
  • Participate in Organization and Community Sponsored Events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements and qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • At least seven years’ experience as a CFO, Finance Manager, or Fiscal Manager in a neighborhood based
  • Non-profit CPA is a plus.
  • Deep and proven knowledge of grants management.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Strong analytical skills and strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communications.
  • Familiarity with FundEZ is a plus.
  • Zealous about meeting deadlines.
  • Takes great pride in their work.
  • A good team player who enjoys collaboration must possess a “can do” attitude.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is not necessary but very helpful.
  • Must be cognizant and sensitive to multicultural issues.
